STEEL PIPES (TUBES)

The production of weldless pipes can be done by two methods.

a-) Pipe production by extrusion

b-) Pipe production with special rolling methods

The production of these pipes is usually done by hot working but cold working in very soft metallic materials.

a-) Pipe Production by Extrusion:

Cylindrical metallic blocks (wedges) used in pipe extrusion can be solid or perforated. Pipes are produced from filled and perforated wedges in direct extrusion, and only from perforated wedges in indirect extrusion.

In pipe extrusion, a pipe section is obtained by attaching a mandrel to the end of the piston. As seen in the figure, the mandrel connected to the end of the piston is connected in three ways as fixed, movable and drilling mandrel.

b-) Weldless Pipe Production with Special Rolling Methods

In the production of weldless pipes with this method, the principle is to punch the cylindrical metal block by hot working. The next production steps vary depending on the pipe diameter and wall thickness. In the method known as the Mannesmann pipe production method, the hot cylindrical block is brought in the form of a thick walled pipe with two rollers whose axis is slightly inclined to each other and rotating in the same direction, and a punch that performs the drilling process.
